Beijing aims to consume less than 4.20 mt of coal this year, down from 4.85 mt in 2017, the Beijing Youth Daily reported last week.

China’s capital city has ended the use of coal in its six downtown districts and four southern districts, and will now turn its attention to reducing coal use in rural and mountainous areas.

Coal accounted for 5.6% of Beijing’s energy consumption last year.
