China’s gas imports increased by 36.4% year on year in the first five months of 2018, to 34.8 mt, according to preliminary figures released by the General Administration of Customs on Friday.

The average cost of imports over the period rose by 13.3%, to RMB 2,509 per ton ($7.57/MMBtu).

Imports for May were up by 8.7% from April and 36.7% from a year ago, to 7.4 mt, according to calculations by Interfax Natural Gas Daily.
