Total is unlikely to re-enter the Mahakam block in Indonesia because it has refused to pay Pertamina for its new participating interest, according to Platts.

Japan’s Inpex has expressed interest in continuing its involvement, according to Djoko Siswanto, oil and gas director general at Indonesia’s energy ministry.

Total’s reluctance to stay is a blow for Indonesia and reduces the likelihood that the country will increase production levels at the block.
