Russia’s parliament approved a bill on Tuesday to impose countersanctions against the United States and other “unfriendly” countries, Interfax has reported.

The measure comes as EU policymakers attempt to defend European companies from US sanctions on Iran that were announced on 8 May.

The US warned the EU last week that it could impose sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project.
