The startup of the third production unit at Eni’s offshore Zohr field brings Egypt a step nearer to its aim of gas self-sufficiency. But reviving the country’s LNG exports looks set to be tough in light of arbitration proceedings over Eni’s Damietta LNG plant and declining output from the fields supplying the Shell-operated Idku plant.
