South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is considering ordering two LNG-fuelled 200,000-ton bulk carriers by August.

The move is part of a government drive to support LNG shipping and develop associated industries, the ministry said on Thursday.

The vessels would sail between South Korea and Australia, and would represent the first domestic order of an LNG-powered marine vessel.

The ministry said it also plans to start a test programme for replacing towing vessels – which currently use fuel oil or diesel – with LNG-powered...
