The European Commission has released its first-ever proposal for carbon dioxide emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles such as large trucks, potentially paving the way to increase the use of gas in long-haul transport.

Average CO2 emissions from new trucks in 2025 will have to be 15% lower than they were in 2019, according to the commission’s proposal. The limit will be raised to at least 30% lower than 2019 levels by 2030.
