Japan restarts eighth nuclear reactor

Kansai Electric Power Co. restarted reactor four at the Ohi nuclear power plant on 9 May, bringing the total number of reactors restarted in Japan since the Fukushima disaster to eight, according to Japanese newspaper The Mainichi.

The combined capacity of all eight reactors is 7.6 GW, and a ninth – Genkai 4 – is expected online later this month, taking the total capacity up to 8.7 GW.

However, the restarted Ikata 3 reactor has been taken offline...
