Panama Canal mulls expansion amid booming demand

The Panama Canal Authority (PCA) has not ruled out enlarging the Central American waterway if demand from shippers – including LNG vessels – continues to grow. The canal is enjoying booming demand from LNG shippers for transit, with authorities saying last week that it may carry five times as much LNG in 2020 as it did in 2017. Moreover, the PCA has said it expects LNG transits to rise by 50% in the 2018 fiscal year.
