The Sakura LNG carrier has left Dominion Energy’s Cove Point LNG plant in the United States carrying the facility’s first commercial cargo to be sold to Japan, according to Bloomberg.

Japan is the fifth-largest importer of US LNG, and has bought 20 cargoes from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant since the facility started exporting in 2016.

Cove Point has agreements to sell gas to a joint venture of Sumitomo Corp. and Tokyo Gas, but the cargoes could be resold in transit.
