EU GDP growth fails to reverse power demand decline

The European Commission noted in its Quarterly Report on European Electricity Markets for Q4 2017 that GDP in the EU28 had expanded by more than 11% between 2010 and 2017, whereas electricity consumption had declined by more than 4% over the same period.

Improved energy efficiency seems likely to be a contributing factor in the decline, although weather patterns also significantly affect electricity consumption.
