UK utility Drax Group may close its remaining coal-fired generation units before a government deadline to phase the fuel out of the country’s energy mix by 2025, the company announced on Monday.
“We’re exploring options for repowering our remaining coal units to use sustainable biomass and gas, which we believe could help us to become coal-free even earlier than the 2025 deadline,” Drax Chief Executive Will Gardiner said in a note.
