Higher output at shale fields helped Sinopec boost gas supplies to southwest China’s Chongqing municipality by more than one-quarter last year, capturing a greater share of the local supply mix at the expense of China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC).
Gas consumption in Chongqing reached 9.52 billion cubic metres in 2017, up by 6.6% from the previous year. CNPC supplied 6.76 bcm, or 71.1% of the total – down from 75.7% in 2016.
