Three thermal power plants in the Kazakh capital Astana will be switched to gas by 2020, according to Mayor Aset Issekeshev.
Issekeshev was speaking at a meeting addressing the city’s future development that was chaired by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The conversions, along with the gasification of certain districts in Astana, will reduce emissions of harmful pollutants in the capital by 30%, the mayor said.
The planned Saryarka pipeline will connect the city to Kazakhstan’s southern gas network by 2019, and will be built in four stages.
