Nigeria trials gas as transport fuel to help curb flaring

Nigeria is looking for ways to use gas that would otherwise be flared. One option is to switch buses and trucks to CNG, and a pilot project is under way to assess the technology’s suitability.

The $25 million programme has been launched by Powergas, Nigeria’s largest CNG distributor, and European Technologies for Africa (ETEFA), an Austrian green technology firm. The scheme will create a gas distribution and transport network in Lagos and the Niger Delta.
