Petrobras has signed a BRL 1.95 billion ($590 million) contract with a consortium including China’s Shandong Kerui Petroleum to build Brazil’s biggest gas processing plant, the state-owned Brazilian company said on Thursday.

The plant will be located in Itaborai, about 50 km east of Rio de Janeiro, and will process gas from Brazil’s giant pre-salt fields onshore.

The facility will have a capacity of up to 21 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d) – nearly doubling Brazil’s current pre-salt processing capacity of 23 MMcm/d...
