Baltics ‘reaffirm commitment’ to synchronise power grid with Europe

The leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania met the EU's Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday to discuss the synchronisation of their electricity grids.

The leaders of Poland and the Baltic states met European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Thursday to “reaffirm their strong commitment” to synchronising the electricity grids of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with that of continental Europe by 2025, the commission said in a statement.

The leaders expressed their commitment to agree by June on the preferred way of synchronising the networks. Funding from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility will be “crucial” for this to happen, the statement said.
