The European Commission has opened an investigation to decide whether public support measures introduced in Romania are in line with EU state aid rules.

The European Commission has opened an investigation to decide whether a number of public support measures introduced in Romania in favour of national electricity producer Complexul Energetic Hunedoara are in line with EU state aid rules, it said on Monday.

The commission approved temporary rescue aid of €37.7 million ($52.3 million) in April last year from the Romanian state to the company, which has been in financial difficulty since 2013.
