Cheniere has dispatched its first LNG cargo to India’s Gail under a 20-year sales-and-purchase agreement (SPA) signed in 2011.

The cargo is onboard Gail’s first chartered LNG carrier, the Meridian Spirit, and departed Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant after a ceremony on Monday.

The SPA came into effect on 1 March and will see Cheniere supply 3.5 mtpa to Gail. The state-owned Indian company said it expects to start discharging the cargo at its Dabhol terminal on around 28 March.
