LNG imports into East and Southeast Asia grew by 12.5% year on year in 2017, with the region receiving 20.5 mt more than in 2016. China was the biggest contributor to this growth, with its imports increasing by 12.1 mt, or 46%. China’s LNG imports exceeded 38 mt last year, making it the second-largest LNG importer in the world, ahead of South Korea, which imported 37.6 mt.
