Energy industry opposes Trump’s new import tariffs

The United States energy industry has reacted with dismay to President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminium.

Energy industry associations in the United States have reacted with dismay to President Donald Trump’s decision on Thursday to impose a 25% tariff on steel imports and a 10% tariff for imported aluminium, starting next week.

“We are concerned that the administration’s plan to impose tariffs on steel could have the unintended effect of endangering much-needed US LNG export projects,” Charlie Riedl, executive director of the Center for LNG, said in a statement.
