EWE plans to cut imports from Groningen by 75% in 2019

Germany’s EWE has presented a plan to reduce its imports from the Groningen gas field by 1.7 billion cubic metres per year from 2019.

Germany’s EWE presented a plan to the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy on Wednesday to reduce its imports from the Groningen gas field by 1.7 billion cubic metres per year from 2019 – around 75% of current import levels – a spokesperson from the ministry told Interfax Natural Gas Daily.

The plan also calls for the construction of a pipeline able to receive both lower-calorific gas from Groningen and higher-calorific gas from alternative sources – potentially Norway or Russia.
