Philippines and China in talks to boost cooperation in South China Sea

China and the Philippines have discussed strengthening cooperation on oil and gas developments in the South China Sea.

China and the Philippines have discussed strengthening cooperation on oil and gas developments in the South China Sea “without prejudice to their respective positions on sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction”, according to a joint statement released on Tuesday.

The countries held a summit on the South China Sea in Manila on Tuesday, where they reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and promoting peace and stability in the area as well as guaranteeing free passage for ships and aircraft.
