Horizontal fracking accounts for most new US wells – EIA

Most of the new oil and gas wells sunk in the US in 2016 were hydraulically fractured and horizontally drilled, the EIA says.

Most of the new oil and gas wells sunk in the United States in 2016 were hydraulically fractured and horizontally drilled, according to a report published by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Tuesday.

The EIA’s data shows horizontally fracked wells accounted for 69% of all oil and gas wells drilled in the US and 83% of the linear footage drilled over the year.
