Kenya has resuscitated plans to build a 700 MW power station at Dongo Kundu, near Mombasa, almost two years after they were shelved over fears of excess power supply. However, key clarifications over feedstock sources, the structure of the tender and the potential surfeit of power have yet to be provided. 

Energy Secretary Charles Keter said last week that his ministry has begun talks with the treasury to prepare a financing structure for the plant, and will be looking to source a private partner.
