South Korea to allocate 2018-2020 emissions allowances

South Korea’s Ministry of Strategy and Finance is preparing to allocate emissions rights for the 2018-2020 period of its emissions trading scheme.

South Korea’s Ministry of Strategy and Finance is preparing to allocate 538.5 mt of emissions rights to businesses for the 2018-2020 period of its emissions trading scheme, according to Yonhap News.

The rights cover roughly 85% of the 632 mt of greenhouse gas the country anticipates will be released next year.

Companies are expected to find ways to reduce their emissions or purchase credits under the scheme to cover their emissions for the period.
