The final month of 2017 is proving to be eventful for Mozambique’s energy sector as IOCs and the country’s government look to consolidate their positions before the year ends.  

The appointment of Max Tonela as the new energy minister at midday on Wednesday followed a wider shakeup of key cabinet positions on Tuesday night. 

Meanwhile, ExxonMobil worked throughout the day to finally close the $2.8 billion acquisition of its 25% stake in Area 4 from Eni, nine months after the deal was first announced.
