China must limit its dependence on imported oil and gas – study

China should strive to keep its dependence on imported oil and gas, the Ministry of Land and Resources has said.

China should strive to keep its dependence on imported oil and gas below 70% and 50% respectively by 2035, according to the Oil and Gas Strategic Research Centre of the Ministry of Land and Resources.

The body added that China should simultaneously step up its exploration and development of deepwater resources. The centre said that oil and especially gas will still need to be vigorously developed while China accelerates the transformation of its energy mix.
