Eight oil and gas firms commit to cutting methane emissions

BP, Eni, ExxonMobil, Repsol, Shell, Statoil, Total and Wintershall have agreed to reduce methane emissions from their global gas assets.

BP, Eni, ExxonMobil, Repsol, Shell, Statoil, Total and Wintershall have agreed to reduce methane emissions from their global gas assets, the companies announced in a joint release on Thursday.

“Since natural gas consists mainly of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, its role in the transition to a low-carbon future will be influenced by the extent to which methane emissions are reduced,” the statement read.
