Court orders review of Groningen production cap plans

A Dutch court has ordered the government to review its decision to allow the production cap at the Groningen field to remain constant for the next five years.

The highest administrative court in the Netherlands has ordered the Dutch government to review its decision to allow the production cap at the Groningen field to remain constant at 21.6 bcm for the next five years.

The Council of State’s Administrative Jurisdiction Division said the government had not done enough to justify the cap remaining unchanged over that time, suggesting tighter caps may be needed in the coming years.

"The minister should have explained more clearly why […] there are no circumstances which would require less gas...
