The European Commission has approved a Spanish scheme for supporting electricity generation from renewable energy sources, it said on Friday.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries receive support through a premium on top of the market price of electricity, which is in line with the commission's recommendations for such schemes. In 2016, Spain’s annual payments under the scheme amounted to €6.4 billion ($7.5 billion), the commission said.
