France to postpone reduction of nuclear power in energy mix

The French Energy Minister has said it will be difficult to reduce the share of nuclear power in the country’s energy mix to 50% by 2025.

French Energy Minister Nicolas Hulot told France’s Council of Ministers on Tuesday that it will be difficult to reduce the share of nuclear power in the country’s energy mix from the current 75% to 50% by 2025, as envisaged by a law voted on by the French parliament in 2015.

"If we want to maintain 2025 as the year in which to reduce nuclear power to 50%, this will be at the expense of our climate goals," French newspapers reported the minister as saying.
