The Deep Panuke and Sable gas projects offshore Nova Scotia will soon be decommissioned, The Chronicle Herald has reported.

The combined output from the developments fell by 16.2% year on year in the first two months of 2017, to 325 million cubic metres.

Decomissioning work on Sable has already started, with the project’s jackup drilling rig carried into Halifax harbour this week, the newspaper reported.

Canadian gas producer Encana plans to shut down its Deep Panuke project by 2019.
