Almost half of the funds awarded to date under the United States’ Power Africa initiative have gone to consultancies rather than to project developers, Interfax Natural Gas Daily can reveal.

Data provided by the US Agency for International Development to Interfax Natural Gas Daily following a freedom of information request shows $161.1 million was transferred and a further $392.5 million committed under Power Africa between its inception in 2013 and 30 September 2017.

Consultancies have been awarded $272 million, or 49.1% of the total contract...
