Chinese gas consumption up 18%

China consumed 167.7 billion cubic metres of gas in the first nine months of 2017, up by 18.4% year on year.

China consumed 167.7 billion cubic metres of gas in the first nine months of 2017, up by 18.4% year on year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

Production over the period increased by 10.8%, to 108.8 bcm, while imports jumped by 26.5%, to 64.4 bcm.

Consumption in September reached 17.3 bcm, up by 24.5% year on year, while production during the month rose to 11.0 bcm, an increase of 10.0%.

Imports in September surged by 42.3%, to 7.4 bcm.
