The Chittagong region of Bangladesh has been hit by gas shortages in recent days, according to The Daily Star.

The city needs 11.3 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d) of gas, but it only receives around 6.8 MMcm/d.

The shortages have been compounded by the breakdown of a compressor in Ashuganj, and supplies will increase when it is repaired.

Bangladesh intends to start up its first LNG import project next year, which is anticipated to help reduce the shortages the country has faced.
