Indian coal-fired power plants have faced fuel shortages this week, according to Money Control, leading power producers to turn to gas-fired plants.
B. C. Tripathi, chairman and managing director of Gail India, said 10 million cubic metres of gas has been purchased by power companies in recent days.
India has significant gas-fired generation capacity, but much of it lies idle, either because it lacks supply or because it is uncompetitive compared with coal and renewables.
