Malta mulls replacing its FSU with an FSRU

Malta is considering substituting its Delimara FSU with an FSRU 12 km from the coast

Malta’s plan to build a pipeline to Sicily will allow it to remove its FSU at Delimara. But Malta’s government is seemingly unsatisfied with the role of gas importer and is planning to install an FSRU, which would allow the island to export gas to Italy.

“An offshore FSRU relates to a future option and is still at the conceptual stage. This option is subject to further in-depth analysis and market development,” Malta’s Energy and Water Agency told Interfax Natural Gas Daily.
