Thai energy business plans battery factory and power storage project

The energy business arm of Thailand’s state oil and gas firm PTT is planning to build a lithium-ion battery factory and storage project.

Global Power Synergy, the energy business arm of Thailand’s state oil and gas firm PTT, is planning to build a lithium-ion battery factory and storage project worth THB 1 billion ($30 million), according to the Bangkok Post.

The company will work with an as-yet unnamed Japanese partner to build a 100 MW capacity battery.

Batteries produced from the factory will target the power storage sector rather than electric vehicles market.

The growth of battery storage will reduce the need to have gas-fired capacity available...
