France to stop oil and gas exploration by 2040

French Energy Minister Nicolas Hulot presented a draft law on Wednesday to stop all oil and gas exploration and production in France by 2040.

According to the draft bill, the government will stop issuing new exploration permits after the publication of the law, and existing concessions will not be renewed beyond 2040.

The proposal is in line with French President Emmanuel Macron’s promises during the election campaign, when he announced his intention to ban all oil and gas activity in France.
