Trump appoints former Rhino CEO as new mine safety head

United States President Donald Trump has nominated David Zatezalo, former head of coal company Rhino Resources, to lead the US Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) following concerns over a series of recent fatal coal-mining accidents, Kentucky radio station WKMS has reported.

Twelve miners have died this year – eight in West Virginia and four in Kentucky – compared with a total of eight fatalities for all of 2016.
