Upstream activity rising in Australia in response to gas shortages

Gas shortages on the east coast of Australia have spurred increased exploration activity among Queensland’s LNG producers, according to The Australian.

Upstream players are seeking to deliver additional gas in the face of ongoing political pressure to curb exports and redirect the gas to the domestic market, the newspaper said.

Expenditure on exploration during Q2 was up by 4.7% from Q1, with a 24.3% increase in activity in Queensland responsible for much of the growth, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
