US nuclear projects in jeopardy despite official support

President Donald Trump’s administration has made nuclear a key part of the United States’ energy strategy, but two major projects are in serious trouble and their progress could affect the future of nuclear power in the US, The Washington Times has reported.

Construction has halted on two new reactors at the V.C. Summer plant in South Carolina as a result of cost overruns, the bankruptcy of chief contractor Westinghouse Electric, and the project’s inability to compete with low gas prices.
