Sinopec drills deepest well in Asia

Sinopec has drilled Asia’s deepest well, to a depth of 8,433 metres, the company has reported.

Sinopec has drilled Asia’s deepest well, to a depth of 8,433 metres, the company has reported.

The well is located in the Shunbei oilfield in the Xinjiang region’s Tarim Basin.

The average depth of oil and gas reserves at the oilfield is 7,300 metres, with the deepest around 8,600 metres.

The oilfield covers an area of 2.80 million hectares and has estimated oil and gas reserves of 1.7 billion tons of oil equivalent, including 1.2 billion tons of crude and 500 billion cubic metres of gas.
