UK backs offshore wind project in East Anglia

The UK government has given planning permission to ScottishPower’s 1.2 GW THREE wind farm in East Anglia.

The UK government has given planning permission to ScottishPower’s 1.2 GW THREE wind farm in East Anglia, the company announced on Monday.

The project will be located 75 km offshore and will cover an area of up to 30,500 hectares. It will require up to 172 turbines to reach capacity.

ScottishPower said it would now prepare for the next phase of the development.

The UK requires offshore wind developers to enter prequalified projects into a contract for difference (CfD) auction process, where the most economic projects are selected...
