Indonesian Energy and Minerals Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan has appointed Ego Syahrial as the new oil and gas director general after sidelining Wiratmaja Puja, who seems to have taken the blame for a spate of disastrous regulations.

The energy ministry has been under fire from President Joko Widodo, known locally as Jokowi, over new and conflicting regulations that have hindered investment. In the first half of 2017, investment in oil and gas stood at $4.0 billion, or 28.8% of the full-year target of $13.8 billion.
