The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given environmental approval to two of TransCanada’s gas pipelines, worth a combined $2.7 billion.

The 275-km, 76.5 million cubic metre per day Mountaineer XPress running through West Virginia will be the second-largest gas pipeline in the northeastern US.

The Gulf XPress project will add seven new compressor stations in Mississippi, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Both projects will deliver gas from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.
