Only 25 billion cubic metres of underground gas storage (UGS) capacity is under construction worldwide, down from 36 bcm last year and continuing a downward trend for new capacity, Paris-based data provider Cedigaz warned in a recent report.

"The capacity currently under construction is limited. At a worldwide level, there are 48 storage projects under construction," the report said. These additions consist of 15 new storage sites with a total capacity of 12 bcm, and 33 expansions that will add 13 bcm.
