Sluggish Latin economies will hit demand – IEA

The IEA is bullish on South American LNG demand, putting it at odds with the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies

The International Energy Agency (IEA) is sceptical about medium-term gas demand in Latin America, but it is confident South American LNG demand will continue to grow. 

Latin America’s gas production is forecast to remain relatively flat between 2016 and 2022, according to the IEA’s Market Report Series: Gas 2017, released last week. Growth from Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela will be offset by declines in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Trinidad. However, the IEA said Argentina and Brazil could outperform expectations.
