India plans to create gas trading hub with market-friendly reforms

India plans to introduce more market-friendly reforms into its gas sector that will enable the creation of a trading hub, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has told The Economic Times.

The plans will replace the current government-mandated formula, which is based on a number of global price indexes and updated every six months.

The creation of an Indian hub price could compete with trading centres that are either planned or already emerging in Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo.
